Since I'm stuck....

engine light came on just after i got on Interstate 10 so i had to stop in Junction, TX. oddly enough, i stayed at the Rodeway Inn and got room 118, the same number i got at the Rodeway in Cortez, CO.

So I've got some time to kill, I'm going to catch up on some picture posting.

Panoramics I simply keep forgetting to put up.

Waiting for a mechanic...

is just like what the doctor said to the midget with a cold, "ypu have to be a little patient."

Nostalgia

This is the train I used to play on as a kid

The most exciting day this trip!

The hospital where I was born and the Army Calvary museum. Owner of the gift show was so nice, we chatted for about half an hour.

I thought the old cribbage board (1820) was interesting.

I'm confused

From Target in AZ, do you see a pharmacy?

Such an exciting day!

Hospital where I was born
Where is the big sign saying I was born there?

On the importance of tents

Even though I'm not going to sleep in it, 13 minutes of setting up a tent in the dark (for the first time with this tent) saved me half price on my site. 14$ for the night, shower, electric and propane included.

Something I enjoy

It really makes me smile whenever I catch up or get passed by someone who has passed me. I was passed by the same red porsche 3 times today. And I lost count of the other ones. It's not that I'm speeding or driving straight through. I'm taking my time and never going over 65 unless I must. Even in 75 zones. I prefer the better mileage. And I'm stopping for pictures and rests. Maybe they are taking longer breaks, but I'm happy.

Living life on the edge.

Without meaning to, I tested the fuel gauge because there weren't any gas stations open on Route 24. 434 miles on the tank, but I did do a lot of downhill today.

Pueblo, CO

Made it here fine, wide awake so I think I'm going to push on tip make sure I see the next two stops during the day. Limon, CO it is. First food.

When entering a store or truck stop...

Make sure to mute the GPS on your phone or else people will look at you more strangely than normally.

Celebrity spotting

Lou Diamond Philips lives in Cortez?

Eh, just a look alike.

Pictures from the BLM visitors center

Some suitable for panoramics.

Others, not so much.

I really think it's great how the center was designed to resemble an ammonite.

Late start today

But it was worth it for this view
Then I drove back 8 miles because there is no way I am going to pay $4.12 a gallon when it's $3.65 in town.

BLM Visitors center near Big Water

Mearle and the other man was super friendly and helpful, advice about driving and sights. On recommendation, I will be staying at Mesa Verde National Park tonight.

After Vegas

Had a nice visit with Stephanie who is now a tattoo artist making quite a name for herself there. A burger with chili, bacon, cheese, onions and fritos on it. Probably shouldn't have done that.

Now, I'm on the way to Shiprock, NM for Four Corners Monument.

Thoughts on Oklahoma

Don't use the rest areas in Oklahoma; they're like Bart Simpson, underachieving and they made you feel badly about yourself.

Everything west of Brolla is useless, both Oklahoma City and Tulsa are like stepping back in time 30 years. Everyone was rude to me wherever I stopped, even Target. The guy couldn't figure out the word for corner, but he did know how to swear well.

That being said, I had a GREAT time in Brolla! Everyone was so nice, got some great tips on what to see or do in a short time. Took a 5 mile scenic loop of old Route 66, postcards and that old trading post. Still had the original saloon, should have taken pics.

Peoria, AZ

On the way to Pleasant Lake, I was pulled over by a local cop. Went through almost everything looking for drugs. Threatened to get a k9 and remove everything. Extra 40 minutes there and then at least another half an hour putting things back so I could eat and sleep.

I guess everything can't go well all the time.

Weather

The temp here in Phoenix reminds me of a Chi Chi Rodriguez quote:
After being told it was 115° in the shade; he said, "I'm glad we're not playing in the shade."

Trust...

Yeah, sure. I'm going to put my credit card into a vacuum cleaner. They suck enough as it is.
